Sweetgrass Records Album Design
Creating unique album art for a variety of First Nations musicians
I was contracted by Sweetgrass Records to design and produce album artwork for a variety of their musicians. Sometimes the design needed to include a predetermined fine art piece and sometimes it required all new visuals. The completed designs were a departure from previous albums but were greeted with enthusiasm from the artists themselves.
These projects were the catalyst for my theory of Modern-Traditionalism – the use of traditional visuals within a modern context. The historic and cultural relevancy can be maintained while the present and future aesthetics are shown to coexist and enhance the overall visual communications.
